Data Protection

The Society holds the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of members and, for a period, of people who have asked for information about the Society and of former members who have asked to remain on the Society’s mailing list. This information is maintained on computers of various members of the Committee who require it for their roles in managing the Society’s affairs, particularly the Chairman, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and the Committee members who organise trips to operas and the pre-performance lunches or dinners. The data base also includes members’ subscription categories and the subscriptions received. Information is also kept about members who have applied for opera tickets. This information is not sent to anyone other than members of the Committee and it is not shared with any other organisations.

Under data protection legislation you are entitled to have access to the information about you held by the Society. Enquiries should be sent in writing to the Chairman. If you wish the information about you no longer to be held by the Society please inform the Chairman in writing and it will be deleted. The Society may send information to you by post or by e-mail about forthcoming activities of the Society or other events or matters in which you might be interested. If you do not want to receive such information please inform the Chairman in writing and you will be deleted from the Society’s mailing list.

Under current data protection regulations you have to consent to the Society holding and using your personal data. This has to be a positive consent and not consent by default. If you are renewing your membership of the Society you have already given us your consent.
